The Glorwing team is proud to announce the release of Glorwing V8.5 scheduled for July 9, 2006! What is V8.5 you say? Well read on and learn of the exciting new additions!

Many of you have read of the V9 project. That project was to be the complete rebuild of Glorwing one final time in the NeverwinterNights V1 toolkit with all new content. It has become apparent to me (Erik - I can be quite dense at times - LOL) that while this would be a grand release it is likely far too ambitious given the current state of the NeverwinterNights community. Most of us have other real life activities, the community is a bit smaller, and the project is quite daunting with the maturity of our world of Glorwing. The need to completely rebuild Glorwing using the NeverwinterNights 2 toolkit looms in our future already so it has been a joint decision to halt work on the V9 project.

Instead two new project directions have begun:
  • The Glorwing V8.5 project - which will use all of the work from the V9 project EXCEPT the CEP and PRC packs as they have proven large and unwieldy. This adds all of the tilesets, tools, and content from V9 to the current Glorwing content - and does not require a complete rebuild of areas and items! Several new downloads (HAKS) will be required but the community can benfit by 'upgrading' to the new features, and / or the use of them in future areas. The hard work of the V9 RP teams will also be enacted as our world changes - preparing for NeverwinterNights 2!
  • The Glorwing NWN2 project - which will establish our plans for the next generation of Glorwing. A new forum for Glorwing NWN2 will be established. Relevant current histories will be migrated, new plots and directions will be decided, and the NWN2 Glorwing 'designed' in preparation for building in the new toolset.

Glorwing V8.5 will launch on July 9, 2006 and may not seem radically different. That is simply due to the fact the builders have not yet had time to enact significant changes, but over time these changes will come to pass. We want this change to be as seamless as possible and there are several rather significant new features that need verified to ensure the release is smooth.

Here are SOME of the new features!

- Rideable Horses!

- Level Cap set to 40!

upon login you will get two new devices:
  • The PC Scrying device - PC Scry is an OOC item intended to assist grouping in multi-player games. Once activated, a private conversation allows the player to perform the following functions:
    • Display list of PC's: Display a list of all non-anonymous PC's online including their Name, Area, LFG, AFK and Levels. LFG = Looking for a group. AFK = Away from keyboard. Class levels may be selectively hidden but character level is always visible.
    • Set or clear your LFG flag to indicate that you are looking for a group.
    • Set or clear your AFK flag to indicate that you are away from the keyboard.
    • Set or clear your ANON(ymous) flag which determines if your name appears in the list of PC's at all.
    • Display or hide your class levels in the list of PC's. If hidden, only your character level will be visible.
  • Player Action Menu - (This device will require some work from the build team as it interacts with placeables specifically tagged) From the C.R.A.P. team the PAM allows characters to actively search for traps, secret objects, and hidden compartments. They can also use it to leap gaps, listen at doors, use items in the inventories to spike doors open and shut, lower ropes into pits, and many other things. The PAM widget is intelligent. It only offers choices that make sense for the target selected. The full list of options available to players through the PAM widget is as follows:
    • Listen at the door
    • Detect Traps
    • Spike the door shut
    • Spike the door open
    • Remove the spikes which hold this door
    • Search this object for hidden compartments
    • Search this area (20 foot diameter)
    • Create a campsite here
    • Apply Bandages
    • Jump
    • Drive a spike into the ground, secure a rope to it, and lower it into the pit.
    • Pull up the rope that has been lowered into this pit
    • Enter this pit using the rope that has been lowered down its side.
    • Forage this area for dead wood to build a fire.

Since we will not be changing to the CEP or PRC programs, then a vault wipe should be unneccessary.

That would be telling.

There are three of us working on fixing up the last issues. On course for a release today still, but not in the next hour.
