Dragon Disciples

[NOTE: Half-Dragons are only playable by taking at least 10 levels of RDD]

It is rumored that the magical powers of sorcerers and bards are somehow connected to the presence of dragon blood in their family tree. While true dragons are rare in Wilwarin, there are many who brought into the realm by the rift that carry draconic blood. While this remains latent in the vast majority of cases, some dragon-blooded people are sorcerers and sometimes bards. A dragon disciple is someone who uses their magical power as a catalyst to ignite their red dragon blood, realizing its fullest potential. This can happen in two ways. The first is accidental catalyzation. In this case, the dragon disciple unintentionally activates a change in their blood. The second method is intentional out-coming. With this method, the arcanist activates their own blood through a magical process.

The Apotheosis: As a dragon disciple gains in level, they begin to show more and more draconic traits. This process is called Draconic Apotheosis. Slowly, their senses get sharper (especially their sense of smell), while at the same time, their visage becomes more reptilian. Hardened scales form on their body, and their eyes will become vertical slits. Their muscles will increase dramatically in strength, and the draconic blood will increase their general cognitive abilities. Wings will eventually sprout from their backs. These wings cannot be used for flight, or to effectively slow a fall. In the final stage of the change, the dragon disciple becomes a half-dragon. Some continue the process, becoming more and more draconic...and less and less human or demihuman. While their mannerisms may be more draconic (see below), they are still humanoid. A half-dragon gains some semblance of longevity from their blood. This results in (roughly): a double life span for humans, halfling, half-orcs, and half-elves; half a life extension for dwarves and gnomes. Elves show no increase or decrease in lifespan.

Mannerisms: Half-Dragons of all colors exist in Wilwarin. There are a variety of mannerisms that seem to apply to most.
  • Mating Drive: Half-Dragons early in their change are driven to perpetuate themselves. While their children are likely to be bards or sorcerers, they cannot pass on any more of their genes than this. Once their mate has been found, half-dragons become dangerously protective for a time. This period lasts for a short period, but is marked with aggressive combat tendencies as the mortal and draconic parts of the psyche wrestle for control.
  • Hoarding: All half-dragons are concerned with material accumulation. They tend to be collectors of things of value.
  • Reverence for Dragons: Most dragon disciples hold a reverence for dragons. They will not seek to harm dragons if it can be avoided, and may be angered by those who do harm wyrms.
  • Dominance: Half-dragons tend to try and jockey and vie for dominance over each other. In some cases, this leads to brutal fights, but these confrontations are rarely fatal.

Half-Dragon Species traits:
  • Half-Black Dragon: Like their full dragon cousins, half-black dragons tend to be evil tempered and ferocious. They rarely back down from conflicts. Suggested Alignments: CE, NE, CN
  • Half-Blue Dragons: Blues tend to be vain and territorial, though they are familial. Blues tend to for life long bonds with a single mate. Suggested Alignments: LE, NE, LN
  • Half-Green Dragons: As with their larger kin, half-greens are belligerent, and they enjoy backbiting, betrayal, and politics. Of all the chromatic breeds, Half-Greens tend to be honey-tongued, though they are cold, calculating creatures. Suggested Alignments: LE, NE, LN
  • Half-Red Dragons: Egotistical and covetous, half-red dragons tend towards acts that demonstrate their nastier natures. They tend to consider themselves the peak of half dragon evolution. Suggested Alignments: NE, CE, LE, TN
  • Half-White Dragons: The most animal-like of the half dragons, half-whites are cruel and fickle at best. Of all the species, they tend to be loners, looking out for only themselves. Suggested Alignments: CE, NE, CN

  • Half-Brass Dragon: Half-brasses are noted for their love of conversation. Of all half-dragons, they tend to be the most humble. Suggested Alignments: NG, LG, TN, CG
  • Half-Bronze Dragons: With a strong sense of order and justice, half bronze dragons tend to be crusaders for the light (at least in their own minds). Suggested Alignments: LG, NG, LN
  • Half-Copper Dragons: Copper half-breeds tend to be pranksters and jokers. They are social, and have generally good natures, though many have a hard time knowing when to end the joke. Suggested Alignments: CG, NG, CN
  • Half-Gold Dragons: Kind and benevolent, Half-Gold Dragons often see themselves as out to right the many wrongs in the world. Their world view is similar to that of most paladins. Suggested Alignments: LG, NG, LN
  • Half-Silver Dragons: Cheerful and out going, half-silvers make life long friendships with others, and are quick to come to the defense of friends and loved ones. Suggested Alignments: LG, NG, LN

  • Half-Shadow Dragons: Cruel and predatory, Shadow Dragon half-breeds are self-centered and self-serving. They are subtle creatures...as subtle as a half-dragon can be. Suggested Alignments: CE, NE, CN
  • Half-Snow Dragons: Spawned from darconic ancestors from Mt. Khelek, Snow dragons fiercely independent, and rather clever. They tend to be bullish around other half-dragons, and care little for the sanctity of draconic blood. Suggested Alignments: TN, CN, NE
  • Half-Water Dragons Almost all half-water dragons are mad, a trait caused by the fact that their ancestors carry the genes for mental instability. They tend to be claustrophobic, and will often refuse to enter confined spaces, a left over from when the water dragons were banished beneath the surface of the earth. Suggested Alignment: CN, TN, CE

Other draconic species can be considered on a case by case basis. These new species will be added to the list above.

[NOTE: These are guidelines, not hard and fast rules.]

Once a character attains Level 9 of RDD, they MUST include 9 levels of RDD in any further build. This can be voided by DM permission following RP to remove the draconic heritage. If the heritage is removed, it can NEVER be re-acquired.

Once a character attains Level 10 of RDD, they MUST include 10 levels of RDD in any further build. This can be voided by DM permission following RP to remove the draconic heritage. If the heritage is removed, it can NEVER be re-acquired.

At level 9 of RDD, a character automatically learns Draconic as a base (racial) language.

Since RDD can also multiclass with palemaster, there exists the possibility of a Half-Dracolich.

Half-Dracolich: In some rare cases, a Dragon Disciple will pursue immortality through necromantic means. Rumored to exist are lost tomes that detail the process to bend draconic blood into lichdom. A Half-Dracolich will tend to look deep into the future. They tend to become aloof to most mortal matters, caring only for accumulation of wealth, and the pursuit of furthering their existence. Previous draconic breed tendencies still apply.

To all of my children to whom Death hath passed his judgement
The soul yearns for honor, and the flesh the hereafter
Look to those who walked before to lead those who walk after

Shining is the Land's light of justice
Ever flows the Land's well of purpose
Walk free, walk free, walk free, believe...
The Land is alive, so believe...
