 Rules for submission

General Guidelines
  • Please ensure your bio is legible. Use a spell/grammar checker and do not use chat slang or leet-speak.
  • Please do not use colours. Use bold or italics or underline or change the font size if there are parts you wish to highlight.
  • When you are asked to expand on your bio, or clarify a point, please EDIT that information into the original post to keep everything tidy and easy to find. As edits do not make the thread show as new, thus causing the approvers to overlook them, we ask that you make a single reply or "bump" to bring our attention back to the thread.
  • Please remember that EVERY character needs to be approved by level 5. Just posting an application is not enough. A bio approver MUST have posted APPROVED. There are no exceptions to this rule. Any characters found in-game without approval as described in the rules maybe deleted without reimbursement.
STEP 1: Please make sure you have read the rules.

Please note these bio approval rules:
Quote:
 Bios must be submitted by level 5 for all alignments except for evil characters who must be pre-approved.
 Religious characters (Clerics, Paladins, Blackguards, etc.) must select a deity and a related domain from those listed for the deity.
 All evil characters must have bio approval before being played.
 Evil characters will only be allowed to existing players.
 Players who wish to play Evil and/or Chaotic characters must respond to the specific questions regarding their character's behaviour.

Step 2: Start a new topic with your Character's Name and use the template below as a guide to creating your character.

The first section needs only a word or one sentence answers.
  • Gamespy ID: this is the ID you use when logging in to a Multi-Player NWN game.
To help us when we talk to you about your character, please indicate how much experience you have with the following:
  • General Role-Playing Experience:
  • NWN Online Experience:
  • Character Name: Please no Real Life or well known fantasy characters. No "joke" names or leet speak. (These name rules apply to familiars and animal companions, too!)
  • gender: Usually male or female.
  • Race: Only standard races, and their subraces, are currently allowed: Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Halflings, Half-Elves, Half-Orcs and Gnomes. No Underdark races are allowed: Drow, duergar, derro, svirfneblin, or deep gnome or any half-breed combination thereof.
  • Character Classes (Initial): List all classes here. Any classes not listed here will require a bio update later in order to take them. You must take at least five levels of each class.
  • Prestige Classes: If you wish to take any prestige classes at a later date, list them here. Any Prestige Classes not listed here will require a bio update in order to take them. You must take at least five levels of each class.
  • Age: there is a guideline for racial ages. Playing children is subject to staff approval.
  • Alignment: Please choose an alignment for your character. All Evil alignments and Chaotic alignments are subject to added scrutiny and may not be approved immediately. See below the short descriptions upon alignments.
  • Deity Worshipped if any: Please check the Glorwing Pantheon, you must pick one of these deities to worship.

These next sections require a good sized paragraph.

Background and History of your Character
You may also refer to the questionnaire below to help you flesh out your character.
  • Background:
Please give some indication of where your character was born, how he chose the profession he did (explain your choice of originating class), any training he took and from whom, and why he began his career as an adventurer (intentional or accidental).
    • Your character may not contain any of the following themes: Rape, incest, child molestation, direct contact with a god, or being the subject of any prophecy that places the fate of the world on your shoulders.
    • If your character comes from another world, (s)he is reduced in power as if (s)he is level one and must explain the loss of his/her abilities in the bio. Perhaps (s)he might have been the most powerful sorcerer in the universe, but (s)he is now no more powerful than the novice adventurer. Any items once possessed are now gone.
  • Alignment:
Please explain how you see your choice of alignment (example: character's outlook on life as it relates to others, the gods, life and death, etc) For Evil and/or Chaotic characters please use the questions at the end of this thread.
  • Religion:
Please explain your character's views on religion. Do they follow a god, or none? How do they show their faith? All religious classes must fill out the questionnaire designed for them, although anyone can use it if they want. You can find it below the regular questionnaire.
  • Future:
What goals does your character have for the near and distant future? Does he foresee new avenues of study (multiclass), have ambitions to new positions or skills (PrCs), or does he simply hope to survive long enough to settle down? (Please explain what your immediate and future goals are for this character) If you wish to take any prestige classes, please detail how you might go about achieving the skills from them, whether they are learned, hereditary, or taught. Any prestige classes not listed here will require a bio update at a later time in order to take them.

The Questionnaire

Please answer the following questions in your bio. You may optionally forego these questions if you can answer most of them with an RP story of your choosing. The bio approvers love stories.

:!: What circumstances in your character's life caused her to choose the path of the classes listed?

:!: Follow-up: What could potentially guide her towards the given prestige classes you wish to take? (note: This does take some forward thinking)

:!: When your character began the life of the adventurer (i.e.: started at level 1), how did she view the world?

:!: When your character began the life of the adventurer (i.e.: started at level 1), how did she view herself?

:!: In detail, describe "home" for your character. (note: This does not have to be the house you grew up in; it could be the city, nation, street, apartment, loft, or simply a place where you had an identity)

:!: What does your Character look and/or dress like?

:!: Does your character have any physical quirks?

:!: What are your characters likes and dislikes?

:!: Does your character have any interesting personality quirks?

Religious character Questions
Note: These questions must be answered by anyone taking a religious class. You may not skip these, even if you skip the rest of the Questionnaire. The following classes currently must answer these questions:
  • Cleric
  • Paladin
  • Blackguard
  • religious-oriented Monk
  • Druids (whom list a deity rather than 'Nature' in the deity field)
:!: How did the character first learn of their religious calling?

:!: How does your character show his/her faith? (How you show devotion to your deity is a critical component to the RP of a religious character...Please take some time thinking about how this is shown.)

:!: How does your character view life in general?

:!: How does the character's religious beliefs affect the character's behavior around others?

:!: For clerics, Which domains will they take? (The domains allowed are listed in the deity's bio.)

Alignment Guidelines

The Alignments: Or what this means to PC and community.

Please remember, no person or character is perfect. A single mistake or violation of alignment principles does not indicate a change of alignment. A pattern of actions or consistent violations of principle does indicate a change. Also note, Lawful Good is not equal to Lawful Stupid and Chaotic Neutral/Evil is not equal to Chaotic Stupid. Descriptions have been added for both Lawful Stupid and Chaotic Stupid for comparison.

Lawful Good (LG)

Lawful Good characters seek to prevent or remediate harm within the limits of law. They do not break the customs or laws of societies or communities they identify with nor do they take the law into their own hands. Vigilantism is a chaotic act. At the same point, they will not allow malicious or mistaken laws to force them into evil acts.

Neutral Good (NG)

Neutral Good characters seek 'good' without regard to law but are generally law abiding unless there is a reason to go outside of the law. They will attempt to prevent or remediate harm when possible. They will either follow the letter or the law or shatter every provision based on their personal opinion of whether or not it is good.

Chaotic Good (CG)

Chaotic Good characters seek to prevent or remediate harm regardless of the law. Some take pleasure in showing how laws are harmful and insufficient while others are merely ignorant or careless of the law. They often justify activities by the 'good' results.

Lawful Neutral (LN)

Lawful Neutral characters act as law and tradition direct. Order and organization are paramount. Some may embody this living by a personal code while others favor a strong organized government. Above all these characters are reliable and honorable without being zealots.

True Neutral (TN)

True Neutral characters care neither about law or good and evil. Above all, they seek to be left in peace or to have those in their care left in peace. They often consider themselves outside of most 'human' societies. Characters of this alignment are arguably the least social characters.

Chaotic Neutral (CN)

These characters follow their whims. They are individualists first and last. They do not intentionally disrupt organizations as that would be motivated by good or evil. They may be unpredictable but their actions are not random. These characters are a balance between society's restrictions and zealots.

Lawful Evil (LE)

Lawful Evil characters use the law to their personal advantage as much as possible. They will create or twist laws to gain a benefit and will force others to obey their laws or whims. This is a tyrannical and controlling personality.

Neutral Evil (NE)

Neutral Evil characters seek wealth and power within society. They willingly break the law if they can get away with it, but only when doing so is advantageous.

Chaotic Evil (CE)

Chaotic Evil characters seek wealth and power through destructive means. They are subtle manipulators, outwardly compliant with society's laws while inside they laugh at those who obey the law. Self gratification is their sole goal.

The 'Stupids'

Lawful Stupid

Lawful Stupid characters think they are lawful good, but commit extreme acts of vigilante 'justice' in the name of law or completely disregard applicable laws in the name of good. Please note, punishing a thief yourself is a chaotic act. A lawful person would either turn an apprehended thief in to the authorities or inform the authorities of a witnessed crime.

Chaotic Stupid

Chaotic Stupid characters are those who believe their chaotic alignment (and lack of good alignment) justifies any action they desire. Please note, CN characters will only intentionally harm another if they stand to gain a commensurate benefit. Even CE characters realize they have to work within society and generally obey their society's defacto rules if not the written rules. Drow manage to live, work, and plan together enough to be a major threat to other races and communities. You as CN or CE should be able to do the same.

For Evil and/or Chaotic Characters

Please answer the following two questions and make a statement that says you understand the last paragraph.

 How will the character stay within the laws of the land if they are of evil and/or chaotic alignment?

 Where will most of this character's ire be targeted?

We remind you of these things because of the character's alignment. Not all Chaotic or Evil aligned characters break the laws of the land. If your character does end up breaking the law, please bear in mind that this has its consequences which all characters and their players will need to accept. There will not be space for continual law breaking or trouble causing. In character actions may result in the execution of that character, with or without raise. If there is no character raise that will lead to the removal of that character from the vault to maintain the role play integrity of the world.

Should there be any CvC, we remind you to stay within the rules of Glorwing and foster good out of character communication.

 Please make a post that shows us you understand and accept the above statement.

When can I apply to play an evil character?
You can apply after you have been with us for three months of regular play. This will have allowed staff to see your rp and get to know you a bit as a player. If your character is accepted then the character will be on "probation" for two months. This is to make sure your idea of evil fits in with Glorwing and our ideals.

Can I apply sooner?
Only if a Staff member can recommend you as a player and has seen your rp in action for an extended time. If the Bio Approvers agree to your character, you will work with the staff member who recommended you. They will help make sure your idea of evil in Glorwing fits with our ideals. The character will still be on probation for up to 4-5 months, depending on when it was approved. First characters will still not be allowed to be evil.
